Aborda aspectos históricos e descreve a infra-estrutura atual da Biblioteca Pública do Amazonas, envolvendo predominantemente a seção de Circulação, seu funcionamento, serviços e rotinas, segundo as suas bases organizacionais e mediante análise de dados administrativos e estatístisticos existentes. Destaca os problemas da burocratização dos serviços e a falta de participação do leitor no funcionamento do serviço como os mais prejudiciais ao desenvolvimento do mesmo. Uma nova estrutura vem sendoproposta para modernizar a Biblioteca e a autora faz sugestões visando o aprimoramento da seção de Circulação.@pt

Discusses historical aspects and describes the current infrastructure of the Public Library of Amazonas, predominantly involving the section of Circulation, operation, services and routines, according to its organizational basis and through analysis of existing administrative data and statistical techniques. Highlights the problems of bureaucracy and the absence of reader participation in running the service as the most harmful to its development. A new structure has been proposed to modernize the Library and the author makes suggestions for the improvement of the circulation section.@en
