A necessidade de informação para o setor de informação tem sido apontada desde o início dos anos 70. Diversas propostas de sistemas que forneçam esses elementos já foram iniciadas e desativadas. Indicadores estatísticos formam um conjunto de dados de grande utilidade para caracterizar o sistema de informações em um país. As estatísticas brasileiras em ciência e tecnologia são falhas e descentralizadas, necessitando, urgente, de uma agência centralizadora que sistematize e coordene a coleta desses dados. O planejamento estratégico, a nível de políticas para o setor, depende basicamente dessas informações. O Projeto Indicadores, redesenvolvido em 1978/79, é detalhado e algumas sugestões são apresentadas para racionalizar o sistema de informação para o setor de informação no Brasil.@pt

The need for information to the information sector has been identified since the early 70´s. Several proposals for systems that provide these elements have already been initiated and disabled. Statistical indicators are a set of data useful to characterize the information system in a country. Brazilian statistics on science and technology are flawed and decentralized, requiring urgent, a clearinghouse to coordinate and systematize the collection of such data. Strategic planning, policy level for the sector, depends basically on that information. The Indicators Project, redeveloped in 1978/79, is detailed and some suggestions are presented to rationalize the system of information for the information sector in Brazil.@en
