The selection of papers published in Brazilian journals: a survey of practices and procedures adopted by the Brazilian scientific journals financed by CNPq and INEP, 1995-1996

Levantamento das características da prática da avaliação e seleção dos manuscritos científicos que precede à publicação desses manuscritos como artigos nas revistas científicas brasileiras financiadas pelo CNPq e Finep entre 1995 e 1996. As perguntas que este levantamento tenta responder são: quais as características do processo de obtenção e seleção de originais das revistas brasileiras financiadas pelo CNPq e o que pensam os editores sobre a avaliação prévia desses originais por especialistas ou pares do autor como parte do processo. Foi usado um questionário dirigido aos editores de 116 revistas. Houve um retorno de 86, equivalente a 74,6%. Os resultados indicam atitude geral favorável à prática, e muita semelhança nas respostas obtidas para cada área; não há evidências conclusivas com relação à influência do assunto nas diferenças e similaridades encontradas.@pt

Survey of the refereeing process adopted by a group of Brazilian scientific journals financed by two Government agencies, CNPq and Finep, in 1995 and 1996. Main points sought were: how do editors obtain and select manuscripts, and how do they view the refereeing process. Data was gathered through a questionnaire sent to the editors of the 116 titles then financed by those two agencies, of which 86 (74,6%) returned. Results show that all editors stress the importance of maintaining a system of pair review, but the differences and similarities found among their opinions are not apparently due to the subject area of the periodicals they edit but to something else, not detected.@en
