The Relationship between Play, Consciousness, and Development, in a Vygotskian Optics

O objetivo do estudo é investigar a hipótese de L.S.Vygotsky sobre o papel do brinquedo no desenvolvimento infantil, a partir da análise dos estágios de construção lúdica presentes nas funções psíquicas superiores, a saber: Atenção Voluntária, Movimento Voluntário, Fala Interior, Pensamento Verbal-Lógico, Memória Semântica e Percepção Significante. O universo pesquisado foi o de crianças institucionalizadas e não institucionalizadas, na faixa etária entre 4 (quatro) e 5 (cinco) anos de idade. Desenvolvemos a investigação por meio de um estudo comparativo, de base qualitativa, a partir de observação participante, entrevistas individuais e análise documental. A pesquisa de campo teve lugar numa escola da rede pública municipal e numa instituição que abriga crianças que não convivem com suas famílias primárias. O estudo de caráter exploratório e não generalista apresentou diferenças significativas nas respostas apresentadas por ambos os grupos pesquisados. A análise dos dados aponta um nível de construção mais complexa da atividade lúdica e de desenvolvimento das funções psíquicas superiores em crianças que convivem com sua família natural do que com suas famílias substitutas. Conclui-se que há uma estreita vinculação entre a atividade lúdica e as funções psíquicas superiores, ou seja, de que o brincar é um canal fundamental para o desenvolvimento infantil e que as influências do meio social afetam esses diferentes níveis de aprendizagem. Estes resultados nos orientam no sentido de fortalecer as estratégias de atuação do brincar no campo da Educação Infantil, em toda a sua dimensão.@pt

The purpose of this study is to investigate L.S. Vygotsky´shypothesis about the role of play in early childhood development, beginning with the analyses of the stages of playful constructions found in the superiorpsychological functions, stated as: Volunteer Attention, Voluntary Movement,Interior Speech, Logical-Verbal Thought, Semantic Memory and MeaningfulPerception. The research sample was composed of institutionalized and noninstitutionalizedchildren. The investigation was conducted by means of acomparative study, with qualitative foundation, using participant observation,individual interviews and document analysis. The research field took place ina Rio de Janeiro public county school and in an institution for children withoutthe care of the family. The study – having an exploratory, non-generablenature – showed significant differences regarding the responses presented inboth groups researched. The data analysis points to a more complexconstruction level of playful activity and development of the superiorpsychological functions in children who live with their natural family, than inthose living with substitute families. We came to the conclusion that there isan intimate bond between the playful activity and the superior psychologicalfunctions, that is, playing is a fundamental means to the infant’s development,whereby the influences coming from the community affect the different levelsof learning. These findings guide us towards strengthening our convictions ofthe importance and significance of the role of play in the fields of InfantEducation and also the clinical setting in all their dimensions.@en
