O volume de informação produzida em formatos digitais tem crescido sensivelmente ao longo das últimas décadas. Entretanto, os meios que utilizamos para transportar e armazenar essa informação são instáveis e a tecnologia necessária para seu acesso tem sido rapidamente substituída por novas gerações mais poderosas que, ao final, se tornam incompatíveis com suas predecessoras. Diversas iniciativas surgem para tratar o problema do documento eletrônico sob a óptica dos arquivos e este artigo oferece visão geral desta trajetória. Na primeira parte, relatam-se os fatos notáveis em nível internacional. Nesta segunda parte, examinam-se os fatos no âmbito nacional e os principais projetos acadêmicos desenvolvidos no campo.@pt

The information volume in digital formats has been increasing over the last decades. However, the means we use to carry and store it are unstable and the technology needed for access is quickly superseded by newer technologies, generation after generation. Many initiatives emerge to address the electronic document under the archival science point of view and this paper provides an overview of this journey. The first part presents the main international facts. This second part examines the facts in Brazilian territory and the primary academic projects developed in the field.@en
