Cultural Action in Public Libraries: the librarian as agent transformer

Cultural action is a term with many different meanings, ranging from possession, control or power over certain individual objects, works or manufacturing, to represent concepts and meanings of social practices and worldviews. Cultural action presupposes the notion of culture as an ongoing process. This study aims to make a conceptual distinction between animation and cultural action, focusing on the librarian as a cultural agent and his preparation for the performance of the function by analyzing some obstacles inherent in this exercise, as the academic training and the lack of cultural experience. It also aims to present considerations of cultural action while dynamic work scope and results. To develop the study methodology used was a basic research with exploratory objectively from a literature review qualitative, inductive approach. It was concluded that, despite the challenges and academic deficiencies, the librarian has full capacity to become a transforming agent in her performance in public libraries.@en

Ação cultural é um termo com muitos significados diferentes, que vai desde posse, domínio ou poder individual sobre determinados objetos, obras ou manufaturas, até conceitos e sentidos representativos de práticas sociais ou visões de mundo. A ação cultural pressupõe a noção de cultura como processo contínuo. Este estudo objetiva fazer a distinção conceitual entre animação e ação cultural, enfocando o bibliotecário como agente cultural e seu preparo para o desempenho da função, analisando alguns obstáculos inerentes a esse exercício, como a formação acadêmica e a falta de vivência cultural. Objetiva ainda apresentar considerações acerca da ação cultural enquanto trabalho dinâmico, seu alcance e resultados. Para o desenvolvimento do estudo a metodologia utilizada foi uma pesquisa básica, com abordagem qualitativa-indutiva, objetivamente exploratória a partir de uma pesquisa bibliográfica. Conclui-se que, apesar dos desafios e deficiências acadêmicas, o bibliotecário tem plena capacidade de se tornar um agente transformador na sua atuação em bibliotecas públicas@pt
