The purpose of this article is both to describe the characteristics and point out some constraints of descriptive-explanatory knowledge when addressing the study of Knowledge Management. Some knowledge management models are shown as examples of descriptive-explanatory knowledge. It is concluded that, despite descriptiveexplanatory knowledge is a foundation for scientific research on Knowledge Managemen, the complex nature of this phenomenon requires moving to empirical knowledge as a higher stage of transit, which includes descriptive-explanatory knowledge but in a transformed way; thus making it possible to move to a higher knowledge form allowing complex research on this phenomenon:active-transforming knowledge.@en
