Performance of the school librarian in the pandemic, according to the vision of Abes

The pandemic caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) has had major impacts around the world, especially in the area of education, where the school librarian is inserted, causing major changes in their performance, in terms of the services provided to the school community. Realizing this new scenario, the School Library Working Group belonging to the Association of Librarians of Espírito Santo (ABES), developed the present research aiming to identify if the educational institutions inserted the librarian in this new teaching format, as well as to present the conditions of work of the librarian in this period and what activities were developed by them, which are or are not part of their attributions. As for the methodology, it is a qualitative-quantitative approach, having as a data collection instrument the use of a questionnaire applied to librarians in the State of Espírito Santo. After collecting the data, it was possible to verify that most of the librarians participating in this research had already returned to work in person (since the vaccination process had already started). We identified that even though there were no face-to-face classes, most librarians tried to maintain interaction with their students in a virtual way and the main activities carried out during this moment signaled by the librarians were: reading club, virtual shelves, reading tips, videos of storytelling stories, quizzes and games. The results showed that during the pandemic, digital tools were part of the process of reinventing school libraries, but most librarians do not have basic resources such as computer and internet in their libraries and that many were unfortunately subjected to function deviation during this period.@en
