Analysis of user´s information demand during the covid-19 emergency: case study

Análisis de la demanda de información de los usuarios durante la emergencia por COVID-19: estudio de caso

The difficult public health situation by COVID-19 represented a challenge from the end of March 2020 to 2021 in different areas. Academic libraries had the opportunity to strengthen their mission of supporting society. They took advantage and diversified their services, among which stands out the virtual reference service aimed at supporting users to locate and get information and data. This case study has the purpose of evaluate the reference service provided by the Daniel Cosío Villegas Library (BDCV) of El Colegio de México from January 2019 to December 2021. The queries that were asked to the reference librarians were analyzed based on the READ scale (Reference Effort Assessment Data). The data analysis was performed based on the variables of duration and type of question. The results show a slight increase in queries during the pandemic, related to the search for documents.@en


La difícil situación de salud pública por COVID-19, representó un desafío desde finales de marzo de 2020 y durante 2021 en diversos ámbitos. Las bibliotecas académicas tuvieron la oportunidad de fortalecer su misión de apoyo a la sociedad. Para ello aprovecharon y diversificaron sus servicios entre los que destaca el servicio de referencia virtual con el propósito de apoyar a los usuarios para localizar y obtener información y datos. Este estudio de caso tiene el propósito de evaluar el servicio de referencia que brindó la Biblioteca Daniel Cosío Villegas (BDCV) de El Colegio de México de enero de 2019 a diciembre de 2021. Con base en la escala READ (Reference Effort Assessment Data) se analizaron las consultas planteadas a los referencistas. El análisis de los datos se realizó con base en las variables de duración y tipo de pregunta. Los resultados obtenidos muestran un ligero aumento de las consultas durante el periodo de la pandemia, relacionadas con la búsqueda de documentos.@es
