This article discusses about innovation in libraries and the potential contribution of information technology and innovation to improve access to information in the Library System - SIBI, of a Federal Public University, this innovation has been acknowledged, however, the fulfillment of this potential has been problematic. In this context, the objective of this work is to recognize the strategies implemented in SIBI to generate innovation and improve access to the System in recent years. The methodological approach consisted of qualitative research composed of a literature review and a case study. The theoretical basis is based on efforts made to innovate the SIBI, in addition to learning, degree of maturity in processes, level of knowledge and experience in managing processes and people. Information regarding the case study was gathered using observations and interviews based on articles published annually. The case presented illustrates the concepts displayed in the review, as well as the influence of learning on the development of innovation and the role of IT â information technology.@en
