The public library brings with itself the social dimension, which creates a space for training and social change. However, society requires innovations and libraries are part of this context. Thus, this work is justified by understanding the role that public libraries have for society. It lacks spaces for access to innovative technologies and information mediation actions. To make the research feasible, the research problem consists on the following question: to what extent do the investigations on public libraries aim at increasing innovation and makerspaces to reinforce their social function? Then, the aim of this study is to ascertain the number of publications in scientific journals that relate innovation and the makerspace in the emancipatory context of public libraries. Methodologically, it was drawn a qualitative and quantitative exploratory research. An exploratory search was carried out in databases considering papers pusblished by authors dealing with the themes, as well as in the abstracts of papers in journals and proceedings in the databases Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA) and the Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação (BRAPCI). Findings reveal that it lacks the relationship between public libraries, makerspace and information mediation, concomitantly, in investigations in the area of Information Science between the years 2009 and 2019.@en

A biblioteca pública traz em seu bojo a dimensão social, o que enseja um espaço formativo e de transformações sociais. Porém, a sociedade ante o dinamismo que lhe é inerente requer inovações e as bibliotecas fazem parte deste contexto. Posto isso, este trabalho é justificado em face do papel que as bibliotecas públicas têm à sociedade, que é carente de espaços ao acesso às inovações tecnologias e ações de mediação da informação. Para viabilizar o estudo, o problema da pesquisa se traduz na seguinte indagação: em que medida as investigações sobre bibliotecas públicas visam o incremento da inovação e dos makerspaces para reforçar sua função social? Ante esse problema, a pesquisa tem como objetivo geral averiguar o número de publicações em periódicos científicos que relacionem a inovação e o makerspace no contexto emancipatório das bibliotecas públicas. Metodologicamente, trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória de natureza quali-quantitativa. Para tanto, realizaram-se buscas exploratórias na literatura em obras de autores que tratam das temáticas, bem como nos resumos de artigos em periódicos e anais de eventos nas bases de dados Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA) e Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação (BRAPCI). Como resultado aferiu-se, em linhas gerais, que a relação entre bibliotecas públicas, makerspace e mediação da informação, concomitantemente, é pouco presente em investigações na área da Ciência da Informação entre os anos 2009 e 2019.@pt

                            [This article aims to explore the documentary principles as equivalents to the core matters proposed to the information science, as a way to promote the debate about its groundings. the study is justified because it considers that the perception over the identity crisis in information science is oriented by literature strongly based on specific axis, which engender partial views, incapable of constituting articulated parts 
of a whole. as methodology, it reviews the literature and discusses the history of information science, considering it prior to the emergence of this designation, and deals with its disciplinarity, presenting interdisciplinary frames, which are significantly consolidated. besides, it studies the matter of the designations for the area. the study enables us to notice that the stir which involves the matter of identity of information science is not relevantly expressed in the literature and in the 
professional practices, which are oriented by documentation, and which has presented, simultaneously, focus and density along the time. the history of documentation permits us to question the discourses over the lack of consensus in 
information science and over the fragile central nature due to its technical dimension and to the supposed fluidity, intrinsic to its limits and borderline areas. it concludes that the documentary principles are a basic part of the grounds of the information science and are emblematic of its identity unit.
