Esse artigo apresenta os principais conceitos de gestão e liderança. Analisa as competências essenciais do bibliotecário enquanto gestor, tanto na gestão de unidades de informação quanto na gestão de pessoas. Destaca o valor do bibliotecário gestor do conhecimento no ambiente organizacional. Ressalta a importância da educação continuada do profissional bibliotecário na gestão de pessoas, visto que ele deve saber administrar e incentivar treinamentos e/ou capacitações no ambiente de sua instituição. Levanta os principais problemas e desafios enfrentados pelos bibliotecários no desempenho de sua função de líder no seu ambiente de trabalho. Tem por objetivo mostrar a importância do gestor-líder no perfil do profissional bibliotecário em sua função de gestão em uma unidade de informação. A metodologia utilizada foram pesquisas bibliográficas em diversos suportes informacionais desde livros aos suportes eletrônicos. Conclui-se que o bibliotecário responsável por unidade de informação, necessita se especializar com maior ênfase na gestão de recursos humanos para que assim possa desempenhar melhor sua função de gestor.Palavras-chave: Gestão de Pessoas. It analyzes the essential skills of the librarian as a manager, both in the management of information units and in the management of people.
