                                            [0] => This article traces the evolution of the UNAM Central Library’s Thesis Department—now the Thesis Coordination Office—in its role within the institutional management of theses and written academic works. From its beginning, which involved manual processes and the introduction of microfilming in 1976, this unit has transitioned toward advanced digital systems. Beginning in 2001, the digitization efforts were strengthened through the TESIUNAM catalog, which provides open access to theses in pdf format. In 2011, the SIICANA-ETRE system was implemented, automating the issuance of clearance certificates and the electronic submission of written works. Subsequently, the RI–UNAM and RU-Tesis DGBSDI repositories were integrated, enhancing the global visibility of the University’s academic output.Currently, the main challenges focus on ensuring long–term digital preservation, including the transition from PDF to XML formats in order to improve interoperability and enrich metadata. There are also plans to incorporate open data and linked bibliographies. Future projections include the development of video tutorials to guide users through the thesis submission process, as well as the formalization of internal procedures through clear guidelines and the use of Creative Commons licenses, thereby consolidating a more accessible, transparent, and sustainable management model.
                                            [1] => Este artículo traza la evolución del Departamento de Tesis de la Biblioteca Central de la UNAM, hoy Coordinación de Tesis, en su papel dentro de la gestión institucional de tesis y trabajos escritos. Desde sus inicios, con procesos manuales y la microfilmación en 1976, el área ha transitado hacia sistemas digitales avanzados. A partir de 2001, se impulsó la digitalización mediante el catálogo TESIUNAM, que permite el acceso abierto a tesis en formato pdf. En 2011, se implementó el sistema SIICANA-ETRE, que automatiza la emisión de constancias de no adeudo y la recepción electrónica de trabajos escritos. Posteriormente, se integraron los repositorios RI–UNAM y RU–Tesis DGBSDI, fortaleciendo la visibilidad global de la producción académica.Actualmente, los retos se centran en garantizar la preservación digital a largo plazo, con el desafío de migrar de PDF a XML para mejorar la interoperabilidad y enriquecer los metadatos. También se busca incorporar datos abiertos y bibliografías vinculadas. Las proyecciones futuras incluyen la elaboración de videotutoriales para orientar a los usuarios en el proceso de entrega de tesis, así como la formalización de procedimientos internos mediante lineamientos claros y el uso de licencias Creative Commons, consolidando así una gestión más accesible, transparente y sostenible.
