[description] => Objective. This study examined the relationship between entrepreneurial networking activities and the activation of electronic word of mouth (eWOM) in a venture operating within the Colombian solar energy sector, with limited resources at its disposal.
Design/Methodology/Approach. An exploratory longitudinal case study was conducted in EnerGiga, a nascent venture that provided small-scale solar energy solutions. The research combined an initial diagnosis of the firm's contact network with the implementation of direct networking, virtual events, social media publications, and promoter-supported activities. A comprehensive set of daily indicators pertaining to networking and eWOM was meticulously compiled for a total of 122 observations. These data were then subjected to a multifaceted analysis, encompassing descriptive analysis, ordinary least squares regression, and an exploratory vector autoregression (VAR) model. A subsequent comparison of the firm's network characteristics was conducted before and after the intervention period.
Results/Discussion. The findings revealed that external email networking was not significantly associated with Facebook organic reach across the full 122-day period. A sensitivity analysis that combined external emails and recorded calls over a shorter interval with reliable telephone coverage showed a positive contemporaneous association. However, neither VAR specification identified a statistically robust lagged effect. Consequently, the evidence was inconclusive and contingent upon the operationalization of networking.
Conclusions. While networking may support digital visibility, its observed relationship with the eWOM proxy is contingent upon the activities included in the measure. The findings do not support the notion of an automatic or persistent effect; instead, they suggest a preference for a cautious, context-sensitive interpretation.
Originality/Value. This study offers contextual evidence regarding the relationship between entrepreneurial networking practices, social ties, and online interactions, on the one hand, and observable eWOM responses in a technology-enabled venture from an emerging economy, on the other.
