                                            [0] => The present study examines the planning, production and reception of the original project of the art history encyclopedia Summa artis, published by Espasa-Calpe in Spain between 1931 and 2006, whose first and main author was José Pijoan. The historiographic value of the volumes attributed to the author is considered to be limited and restricted to the extensive compilation of photographic reproductions of works of art that the collection accumulated. The editorial team, in its initial conception of the project, ascribes predominant relevance to visual appeal and ease of access for readers, in contrast to the reduced academic rigor that characterized the first texts. The analysis of the editorial plan of this encyclopedia is approached in the context of the lesser legal and commercial protection of images at the time and reveals sources of supply. Despite the evolution of the project from a socially pedagogical manufacture of art history to an academic and university publication after the main author was relieved, it is concluded that the original collection was aligned with widely accessible recreational editions, even if its price always kept it selective and complicated it.
                                            [1] => El estudio examina la planificación, producción y recepción del proyecto original de la enciclopedia de historia del arte Summa artis, publicada por Espasa-Calpe en España entre 1931 y 2006, cuyo autor primero y principal fue José Pijoan. A los volúmenes de su autoría se les atribuye un limitado valor historiográfico y social, derivado de la extensa compilación de reproducciones fotográficas de obras de arte que acumuló. El equipo editorial, en su concepción inicial del proyecto, otorgó una relevancia predominante al atractivo visual y a la facilidad de acceso para los lectores, en contraste con el reducido rigor académico que caracterizó a los textos primeros. El análisis del plan editorial de esta enciclopedia se aborda en el contexto de la menor protección jurídica y comercial de las imágenes en su momento y revela sus fuentes en el proceso. A pesar de la evolución del proyecto desde una manufactura de la historia de arte con ánimo pedagógico social a una publicación académica y universitaria después de que el autor principal fuera relevado, se concluye que la colección original se alineó con las ediciones recreativas de amplio acceso, aunque su precio siempre la mantuvo selectiva y lo complicara.
