                                    [description] => The parallelism, not always according, of the binominal Enlightenment - Revolution in the Iberian American in general, and in Brazil in particular, is reviewed in this article. The author approached the two concepts trying, however, to delineate the genealogy of Illustration and its usage in the colonial political scenery. He also stands out the “mechanical and naive” character of well-known interpretations. In the investigation of a necessary distinction between Enlightenment and Revolution in the second half of the XVIIIth century, we’d have an example of the importance of historical methodology and criticism in the labor of the historian.
