The English aims were exclusively economic and political. Nevertheless, the control exerted by a Portuguese capitalist minory in Brazil didn´t allow tha implementation of agreements and laws against slavery traffic. Tha capitalism subsidized the forbidden commerce in a period when world economy changed from mercantilism to capitalism.@pt
