The article deals with the State Archives of Bahia, situated in the Brazilian Northeast in the first capital of Brazil, Salvador. The question of educating the public regarding the problem of archives in Brazil is discussed along, with suggestions for exploiting rigorous classification of documents. The problem of lack of human resources and difficulties in gathermg documents in the area of public administration are also discussed.
