                                            [0] => Specialized libraries and documentation centers in the business, cultural, and social sectors of Medellin have been largely absent from academic debate. As a result, there is little scientific documentation that reflects their current situation. This research aimed to address the need to identify and analyze the characteristics of their operations to later support future perspectives on their mission within the information and knowledge society. This article presents the first phase of an exploratory and descriptive study, in which a situational diagnosis was conducted using a digital semi-structured questionnaire targeted at professionals leading 26 of these information units, applying a non-probabilistic sampling method. The findings indicate: first, that a portion of these units lack systematic and strategic integration into the processes of the organizations to which they belong; second, the necessity of having professionals in information sciences and support staff for the provision of specific services; and third, the urgent need to implement the digital transformation of their collections and services, including the integration of artificial intelligence and specialized software for information management.
                                            [1] => Las bibliotecas especializadas y centros de documentación de los espacios empresariales, culturales y sociales en Medellín han estado ausentes del debate académico. Es escasa la producción de documentación científica que dé cuenta de su situación actual. La investigación se propuso abordar la necesidad de identificar y analizar las características de su funcionamiento para, posteriormente, fundamentar las prospectivas de su misión en la sociedad de la información y el conocimiento. Este artículo da cuenta de la primera fase del estudio exploratorio y descriptivo, en el cual, se implementó un diagnóstico situacional mediante la aplicación de un cuestionario semiestructurado digital, dirigido a los profesionales que lideran 26 de estas unidades de información, utilizando un muestreo no probabilístico. Los hallazgos indican, uno, que un porcentaje carece de integración sistemática y estratégica a los procesos de las organizaciones en que están adscritas; dos, que es necesario contar con profesionales en ciencias de la información y personal de apoyo a la prestación de servicios específicos; tres, la imperante necesidad de implementar la transformación digital de sus colecciones y servicios, incluida la vinculación de la inteligencia artificial y de software especializado para la gestión de información.
