                    [0] => This historical analysis, based on a literature survey and review, examines how Information Science developed in the former communist bloc in the second half of the twentieth century. It looks at how socialist countries built their information services and their relationship with the bloc’s dominant power, the Soviet Union, as well as the main channels of theoretical and practical exchange. The article first analyzes the evolution, consolidation, and expansion of Librarianship and Information Science in the early decades of the Soviet Union, then turns to its sphere of influence (Eastern Europe, China, Cuba, and countries connected to Asia and Africa). The study found that, for decades, the Soviet Union sustained what Pamela Spence Richards called a “communist information empire,” supplying countries under its influence with scientific material and standardizing their information services—yet little of this survived after 1991.@en
                    [1] => Análise histórica, a partir de levantamento bibliográfico e revisão de literatura, sobre o desenvolvimento da Ciência da Informação no antigo bloco comunista durante a segunda metade do século vinte, identificando como os países socialistas desenvolveram seus serviços de informação e como se deu a relação com o país hegemônico do bloco, a União Soviética, analisando também seus principais canais de inter-relacionamento teórico e prático. O artigo incialmente analisou a evolução, consolidação e expansão da Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação nas primeiras décadas da União Soviética, focando posteriormente em sua esfera de influência (Leste europeu, China, Cuba e em países ligados a Ásia e África). A pesquisa identificou que a União Soviética, por décadas, conseguiu manter, segundo termo cunhado por Pamela Spence Richards, uma espécie de “império informacional comunista”, suprindo os países sob sua influência com material científico e padronizando seus serviços de informação, porém com muito pouco dessas iniciativas sobrevivendo após 1991.@pt
