[0] => Following the promulgation of the Reform Laws in Mexico (1855-1863), a political climate was generated that guaranteed the entry of new religious ideas into a country that had historically been characterized as Catholic. For this reason, the contemporary press, both Catholic and Protestant, recorded the clash between the two faiths. In this essay, we propose to demonstrate that the press is a type of cultural artifact ideally suited to the study of religious imagery and the history of religions in Mexico, as it reveals how these myths were used in everyday life under Porfirio Díaz. For this purpose, we draw on bibliographic studies to examine the press and its textual and iconotextual discourses. For the interpretative aspect of these materials, we draw on the history of religions and studies of religious folklore, demonstrating that this press reflects the adaptation of myths and symbols during a very turbulent time for the Catholic flock.@en
