                    [0] => This article analyzes the role of the San Juan press during the 1820s and 1830s, in a context in which the province, recently separated from the Gobernación de Cuyo, was facing severe political instability and high levels of illiteracy. In this scenario, newspapers—published by literate sectors—functioned as tools of informal instruction. Through their pages, they promoted educational projects that linked instruction to the cultural and material progress of the province. From the intersection of the social history of education and periodical press studies, this work focuses on the analysis of two imaginaries constructed by these publications: on the one hand, the notion of “ignorant people,” used not only to refer to illiterate popular sectors but also as a pejorative label for political opponents who, although literate, were accused of lacking knowledge on various issues related to political organization and yet presented themselves to the public as “experts.” On the other hand, the depiction of a “reading china” in the 1839 issue of El Zonda, where the act of reading by an illiterate woman is represented in a caricatured manner. Both cases reveal how the press sought to reinforce the idea that education was an essential condition for the development of San Juan.@en
                    [1] => El presente artículo analiza el papel de la prensa sanjuanina en las décadas de 1820 y 1830, en un contexto en el que la provincia recientemente separada de la Gobernación de Cuyo enfrentaba una fuerte inestabilidad política y altos niveles de analfabetismo. Ante este panorama, los periódicos, publicados por sectores letrados, funcionaron como dispositivos de instrucción informal. A través de sus páginas promovieron proyectos educativos que conectaban la instrucción con el progreso cultural y material de la provincia. Desde la intersección de la historia social de la educación y los estudios sobre la prensa periódica, este trabajo se centra en el análisis de dos imaginarios construidos por estos impresos: por un lado, la noción de “ignorantes”, empleada no solo para referirse a los sectores populares iletrados, sino también como una forma peyorativa de designar a los opositores políticos que, aunque alfabetizados, eran acusados de desconocer varios asuntos relativos a la organización política y, aun así, se mostraban al público como “entendidos”. Por el otro, la escena de una “china lectora” en el periódico El Zonda de 1839, donde se representa de forma caricaturesca la lectura de una mujer iletrada. Ambos casos evidencian cómo la prensa buscaba reforzar la idea de que la educación era condición indispensable para el desarrollo de San Juan.@es
