                                            [0] => The development of Library and Documentation (L & O) profession presupposes 2 interacting factors: educational formation and professional performance. An analysis of L & O teaching show& the htstory of theprofession in Brazil in 4 periods with social, political, economic and cultural peculiarities and provide the historical background of the profession development under different ideological influences: a) the "erudite librarian, guardian of books, and worried about cultural problems" (1879-1930) (OLIVEIRA); b) the librarian concerned with the development of technicalactivities (1930-1960); c) the graduate professional thus becoming concerned with information technologies (1960-1980) d) the librarian as a cultural agentand using the computer resources as a supporting tool. A 5th historical moment is arising: the economic system now emphasyes information as "an essential product to the development" (BALBY & ANTONIO) So, theinterdisciplinarity has a preponderant function in the formation of the librarian nowadays.
                                            [1] => O desenvolvimento da profissão bibliotecária pressupõe dois fatores interagentes: a formação educacional e o desempenho profissional. Uma análise do ensino de Biblioteconomia no Brasil mostra sua evolução histórica por meio de quatro periodos distintos, cujas peculiaridades sócio-político ecônomico-culturais forneceram diferentes influências ideológicas à profissão: o "bibliotecário erudito, guardião de livros e procupado com problemas culturais. (1879-1930), o bibliotecário ligado ao desenvolvimento das atividades técnicas (1930-1960), o profissional envolvido com as tecnologias de informação (1960-1980) e o agente cultural valendo-se dos recursos auto matizados como um instrumento de trabalho (a partir de 1980). Um quinto momento histórico da profissão se inicia, onde a informação atua como um produto essencial para o desenvolvimento e a abordagem interdisciplinaridade torna-se imprescindível à profissão.
