                                            [0] => Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS) reflect the prevailing prejudices of the society in which they are conceived. Consequently, categorizing something is a process subject to change depending on the socio-political climate of each era. The aim of this study is to examine the occurrences of the subject homosexuality in the catalogue of the University of Coimbra (UC) libraries through the notations of the CDU used to represent this concept. Specifically, we intend to: (i) Map the notations attributed by UC librarians to represent the subject homosexuality; (ii) Analyse the role of neutrality in Knowledge Organization, focusing on categorical KOS, especially the CDU; (iii) Evidence some biases of Knowledge Organization Systems, focusing on categorical KOS. As a result, it is believed that the assignment of the notation 616.89, which had the highest number of records, around 200, was influenced by the content of the title, because if the title relates homosexuality to issues of mental illness, as a result of the date of publication and the place of publication, the UC librarians simply reflect the content of the work as a whole. Possible solutions to overcome the weaknesses of KOS point, for example, to their use in combination with collaborative indexing tools, or with the creation of controlled vocabularies, such as ontologies and taxonomies.
                                            [1] => Os Sistemas de Organização do Conhecimento (SOC) refletem os preconceitos predominantes da sociedade em que são concebidos. Consequentemente, categorizar algo é um processo sujeito a mudanças dependentes do clima sociopolítico de cada época. Este estudo tem como objetivo examinar, no catálogo das bibliotecas da Universidade de Coimbra (UC), as ocorrências do assunto homossexualidade através das notações da CDU usadas para representar esse conceito. Especificamente, pretendemos: (i) Mapear as notações atribuídas pelos bibliotecários da UC para representar o assunto homossexualidade; (ii) Analisar o papel da neutralidade na Organização do Conhecimento, com foco nos SOC de tipo categorial, em especial na CDU; (iii) Evidenciar alguns viés dos Sistemas de Organização do Conhecimento, com foco nos SOC de tipo categorial. Como resultados acredita-se que a atribuição da notação 616.89, que teve o maior número de registos, cerca de 200, foi influenciada pelo conteúdo do título; se o título relaciona a homossexualidade com questões de doença mental, consequência da data da publicação e do local da publicação, os bibliotecários da UC limitaram-se a refletir o conteúdo da obra como um todo. Possíveis soluções para contornar as fragilidades dos SOC apontam, por exemplo, para o seu uso combinado com instrumentos de indexação colaborativa, ou com a criação de vocabulários controlados, como por exemplo, ontologias e taxonomias.
