                    [0] => Public libraries play a fundamental role in the development of local communities. The general aim of this article is to analyse the role of these libraries in promoting the sociocultural development of the local community. The specific objectives are to characterize the Municipal Library of Valpaços in terms of its resources, services, activities and cultural projects and identify areas of action for the sociocultural development of the local community. The methodology comprises exploratory and descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The case study was carried out through interviews, analysis of administrative documents and the BMV website. The results show that the BMV has played a fundamental role in promoting books, reading and the social and digital inclusion of the local community. The conclusion is that the continuity and innovation of resources, services and cultural activities and projects are essential to strengthening the sociocultural development and civic participation.@en

                    [2] => As bibliotecas públicas têm um papel fundamental no desenvolvimento das comunidades locais. Este artigo tem como objetivo geral analisar o papel destas bibliotecas na promoção do desenvolvimento sociocultural da comunidade local. Como objetivos específicos pretende-se: caracterizar a Biblioteca Municipal de Valpaços (BMV) quanto aos seus recursos, serviços, atividades e projetos culturais e identificar as áreas de atuação para o desenvolvimento sociocultural da comunidade local. A metodologia compreende uma pesquisa exploratória e descritiva com uma abordagem qualitativa. O estudo de caso concretizou-se mediante entrevistas, análise de documentos administrativos e da página web da BMV. Os resultados revelam que a BMV tem desempenhado um papel fundamental na promoção do livro, da leitura e da inclusão social e digital da comunidade local. Conclui-se que a continuidade e inovação dos recursos, dos serviços e das atividades e projetos culturais tornam-se essenciais para fortalecer o desenvolvimento sociocultural e a participação cívica.@pt
