                                            [0] => This article presents a conceptual presentation of approaches to the term literacy in the English-speaking context, pointing out its implications for the polysemic nature of the term letramento (literacy) created in Brazil in order to contribute to the theoretical-empirical consolidation of studies on information literacy. This is an exploratory study, based on bibliographic research in English and Portuguese-language texts. It shows that in the English-speaking context, the term literacy can be understood through four major traditions or areas of research: literacy as learning, literacy as a set of skills (cognitive approaches), literacy as applied, practiced and situated (social practice approaches) and literacy as text. In the Brazilian context, these approaches will manifest themselves through different categorizations of literacy, through two dimensions: individual dimension and social dimension, inserted in the concepts of the researchers, each with its own focus and can be analyzed from disciplinary perspectives. It concludes that, given the multiple nature of this phenomenon, both literacy and letramento are terms that cannot be defined in a unique way. Therefore, it is necessary to delimit, in each appropriation, which facet of the term is being explored.
                                            [1] => Este artigo traça uma exposição conceitual sobre as abordagens anglófonas em torno do termo literacy, apontando suas implicações para a natureza polissêmica do termo letramento criado no Brasil, a fim de contribuir com o adensamento teórico-empírico dos estudos sobre letramento informacional. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório, oriundo de pesquisa bibliográfica em textos de língua inglesa e portuguesa. Expõe que no contexto anglófono o termo literacy pode ser compreendido por meio de quatro grandes tradições ou áreas de investigação: literacy as learning, literacy as set of skills (cognitive approaches), literacy as applied, practiced and situated (social practice approaches) e literacy as text. No contexto brasileiro, essas abordagens vão se manifestar por meio de categorizações diversas sobre o letramento, mediante duas dimensões: dimensão individual e dimensão social, inseridas nos conceitos das pesquisadoras, cada uma com seu foco e, poderão ser analisadas sob perspectivas disciplinares. Conclui que, dada a natureza múltipla desse fenômeno, tanto literacy como letramento não são termos passíveis de serem definidos de modo único. Por isso, é necessário delimitar, em cada apropriação, qual faceta do termo esta sendo explorada.
