                                            [0] => Archives are essential repositories of memory, both individual and collective. However, traditional access to these collections, often limited by manual descriptions and indexing, tends to address only the surface of their information potential. We propose an exploration of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be a key to unlocking a ‘deep memory’ in archives, enabling new approaches to accessing and interpreting large documentary masses. The dimensions of augmenting archival capabilities, the ethical implications, the redefinition of access and discovery, and the future of archives in the face of AI are analysed. It considers both the management of existing heritage and the challenge of archiving the AI systems themselves and the content they generate, which will form a significant part of future digital heritage. It is argued that the integration of AI transcends mere automation, requiring interdisciplinary dialogue, attention to ethics and a re-evaluation of fundamental archival practices. ‘Deep memory’, in the context of human history, reflects the lasting emotional impact of events and how extreme collective events shape memory and identity over time, something that AI, by helping to scrutinise collections, can assist in revealing.
                                            [1] => Os arquivos constituem repositórios essenciais da memória, tanto individual quanto coletiva. Contudo, o acesso tradicional a estes acervos, frequentemente limitado por descrições e indexações manuais, tende a abordar apenas a superfície do seu potencial informativo. Propõe-se aqui uma exploração de como a Inteligência Artificial (IA) pode ser uma chave para desbloquear uma “memória profunda” nos arquivos, possibilitando novas abordagens de acesso e interpretação de grandes massas documentais. Analisam-se as dimensões de augmentação das capacidades arquivísticas, as implicações éticas, a redefinição do acesso e descoberta, e o futuro dos arquivos face à IA. Considera-se tanto a gestão do património existente quanto o desafio de arquivar os próprios sistemas de IA e os conteúdos por eles gerados, que constituirão parte significativa do património digital futuro. Argumenta-se que a integração da IA transcende a mera automação, exigindo diálogo interdisciplinar, atenção à ética e uma reavaliação das práticas arquivísticas fundamentais. A “memória profunda”, no contexto da história humana, reflete o impacto emocional duradouro de eventos e como eventos coletivos extremos moldam a memória e a identidade ao longo do tempo, algo que a IA, ao ajudar a perscrutar os acervos, pode auxiliar na sua revelação.
