His influenceis remarkable in the written and graphic works by the British traveler Maria Graham. This paper analyses one illustration extracted from the journals she kept during her trip to Brazil. It portrays the legendary Dragon Tree, a millenary tree situated in the Tenerife Island, often cited for its exotic appearance and medical properties. The treewas linked with a variety of contexts, both religious and secular, and it appeared in many books of natural history.

Este artigo discute a influência desse naturalista na obra escrita e imagética da viajante inglesa, Maria Graham, a partir da análise de uma das ilustrações que acompanham seu diário de viagem ao Brasil. A Dragon Tree, da Ilha de Tenerife, era uma árvore milenar constantemente citada pelo seu aspecto exótico e seus potenciais medicinais. Essa espécie foi usada em diferentes contextos religiosos e seculares e figurou destacados escritos dedicados à história natural.
