[0] => Children's and young adult literature (IYL) is a significant medium in the construction of the educational, social and cultural formation of children and young people. Within the IYL, illustrated albums are of great importance since for this age group the image communicates more than the textual content and allows understanding aspects that would not be understood with the text alone. On the other hand, literary awards are a way of highlighting books, of recognizing the work of an author and giving it visibility. For this reason, the objective of this study is to check whether stereotypes and gender roles are observed in illustrated albums for children and young people awarded in Brazil, between 2000 and 2020, through a sample of thirty-four works. The results show that seven do not contain female characters, fourteen do, but without roles and stereotypes, and thirteen of them assume roles and stereotypes of the female gender representing the mother, the housewife, emotions and characteristics such as caregiver and teacher, versus male roles. It is concluded that, although less occurrence was found, gender stereotypes and roles are still present in the books with more visibility and scope.
