Objective. The objective is to analyze the relationship between intellectual property and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the academic, scientific, and business perspectives indexed in Scopus to assess how intellectual property can boost or limit the achievement of the SDGs.


Design/Methodology/Approach. The first research stage analyzes their performance and impact, while the second stage involves scientific mapping of the publications identified for both. This allows for studying the initial state of the topics from a common perspective to identify the relevant agents and issues in a given period.


Results/Discussion. They show hierarchical and cross-cutting relationships between the clusters and highlight the centrality of the economic and regulatory approach, the relevance of environmental management and governance, and the growing role of digitization and the green economy. The thematic mapping offers a structured view of current knowledge and provides a strategic framework to guide future research and policy in the intersection between intellectual property and sustainable development.


Conclusions. The analysis of the groups or clusters identified in recent literature reveals that this field of study is configured as an interdisciplinary, complex, and dynamic system, where intellectual property acts as an articulating axis of structural debates, practical applications, and emerging challenges.


Originality/Value. The holistic approach to the intersection between the two concepts in various fields shows that while intellectual property can drive innovation, it can also hinder access to key technologies for developing countries. The analysis offers a crucial perspective for rethinking public policy and proposes aligning intellectual property protection with sustainability and social inclusion principles.

Objetivo. El objetivo es analizar la relación entre propiedad intelectual y los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), desde la perspectiva académica, científica y empresarial indexada en Scopus, para evaluar cómo la propiedad intelectual puede impulsar o limitar la consecución de los ODS.


Diseño/Metodología/Enfoque. La primera etapa de investigación analiza su rendimiento e impacto, mientras que la segunda consiste en el mapeo científico de las publicaciones identificadas para ambas, lo que permite analizar el estado inicial de los temas desde una perspectiva común, identificar los agentes y temáticas relevantes en un periodo de tiempo determinado.


Resultados/Discusión. Muestran la existencia de relaciones jerárquicas y transversales entre los clústeres, y destacan la centralidad del enfoque económico y normativo, la relevancia de la gestión ambiental y la gobernanza, así como el creciente papel de la digitalización y la economía verde. El mapeo temático ofrece una visión estructurada del conocimiento actual y proporciona un marco estratégico para orientar futuras investigaciones y políticas en el ámbito de la intersección entre propiedad intelectual y desarrollo sostenible.


Conclusiones. El análisis de los grupos o clusters identificados en la literatura reciente revela que dicho campo de estudio se configura como un sistema interdisciplinario, complejo y dinámico, donde la propiedad intelectual actúa como eje articulador de debates estructurales, aplicaciones prácticas y desafíos emergentes.


Originalidad/Valor. El enfoque holístico sobre la intersección entre ambos conceptos en diversos ámbitos pone de manifiesto que, aunque la propiedad intelectual puede impulsar la innovación, también puede obstaculizar el acceso a tecnologías clave para los países en desarrollo. El análisis ofrece una perspectiva crucial para replantearse las políticas públicas y propone alinear la protección de la propiedad intelectual con los principios esenciales de sostenibilidad e inclusión social.
