                                            [0] => Human aging can be marked by negative changes resulting from each person'slifestyle, leading to cognitive decline that impairs functions such as attention,concentration, memory, reasoning and other complications that compromiseautonomy. In some cases, depending on the elderly person's lifestyle, old age can beaccompanied by a lack of interest in reading. Thus, this research aims to record theimportance of storytelling and the act of reading in the construction of critical thinking and emotional support in elderly women. This is an exploratory research, whichcombines bibliographic research and a qualitative field study. The study was carriedout through a reading workshop “Coffee with Gossip”, with the participation of sevenelderly women at the Associação das Senhoras da Caridade São Vicente de Paulo, inSão Luís-MA. The results indicate that the elderly women entered the home mainlydue to some difficulties, such as family abandonment and lack of financial resources.Many reported feeling distant from the feeling of “happiness” or not even rememberingthe last “happy moment they had”, which contributes to a feeling of imbalance anddisharmony. Another point highlighted was the preference of the majority for listeningto stories rather than telling them. Therefore, it was possible to record the importance of storytelling and the act of reading in the construction of critical thinking and emotional support in elderly women. The article concludes with a reflection on the need to institutionalize bibliotherapy practice programs aimed at the elderly, with the participation of the scientific community, developing research that aims to contribute to the quality of life of the elderly.
                                            [1] => O envelhecimento humano pode ser marcado por mudanças negativas decorrentes do estilo de vida de cada pessoa, acarretando declínio cognitivo que prejudica funções como atenção, concentração, memória, raciocínio e demais complicações que comprometem a autonomia. Em alguns casos, dependendo do estilo de vida do idoso, a velhice pode ser acompanhada por um desinteresse pela leitura. Assim, a presente pesquisa objetiva registrar a importância da contação de história e do ato de ler na construção da criticidade e do amparo emocional em idosas. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, que combina a pesquisa bibliográfica e um estudo de campo de natureza qualitativa. O estudo foi realizado por meio de uma oficina de leitura “Café com Fofoca”, com a participação de sete idosas na Associação das Senhoras da Caridade São Vicente de Paulo, em São Luís-MA. Os resultados indicam que as idosas ingressaram no lar principalmente em decorrência de algumas dificuldades, como abandono familiar e falta de recursos financeiros. Muitas relataram sentir-se distantes do sentimento de “felicidade” ou nem lembram do último “momento feliz que tiveram”, o que contribui para uma sensação de desequilíbrio e desarmonia. Outro ponto destacado foi a preferência da maioria por ouvir histórias em vez de contá-las. Logo, foi possível registrar a importância da contação de história e do ato de ler na construção da criticidade e do amparo emocional em idosas. Conclui-se com a reflexão sobre a necessidade da institucionalização de programas de práticas de biblioterapia voltados para idosos, com a participação da comunidade científica, desenvolvendo pesquisas que visem contribuir para a qualidade de vida dos idosos.
