                                            [0] => Speech balloons and lettering are, generally, elements that compose the textual aspect of graphic novels, being able to determine how the text may be read and understood in this system. The research developed here focuses on these elements, emphasizing their role in the characterization of characters in graphic novels. Thus, the speech balloons and lettering of Dream, Death and Delirium in the graphic novel Sandman (1989-1996), by Neil Gaiman et al, is analyzed, observing how these elements reflect their characterization in the narrative. The studies developed by Cagnin (1975), Cirne (1972), Christin (2013), Groensteen (2015), Postema (2018), among other authors in the area and related areas, as well as notes made by Todd Klein, Sandman’s letterer, in his blog on the subject, are applied in this essay.
                                            [1] => Nos quadrinhos, de maneira geral, o balão de fala e o letreiramento são elementos que compõe a sua parte textual, podendo determinar a maneira na qual a parte escrita é lida e compreendida neste sistema. A pesquisa aqui desenvolvida foca nestes elementos, enfatizando o seu papel na caracterização de personagens em quadrinhos. Para tal, é analisado o balão de fala e letreiramento das personagens Sonho, Morte e Delírio na obra Sandman (1980-1996), de Neil Gaiman et al., observando como estes elementos refletem a sua caracterização dentro da narrativa. Este artigo usa como base os estudos desenvolvidos por Cagnin (1975), Cirne (1972), Christin (2013), Groensteen (2015), Postema (2018), entre outros pesquisadores da área e de áreas relacionadas, bem como os apontamentos feitos por Todd Klein, o letreirador de Sandman, em seu blog sobre o assunto.
