                                            [0] => This paper focuses on the school library, as an important information unit in the citizens’ training, during formal education processes, in school establishments. The general objective of the research developed is to investigate the role of the school library and the librarian in the training of critical and informed citizens. The specific objectives are: to analyse how the mediation of the school librarian promotes critical reading among students and the impact of this professional's presence; identify practices that encourage debate and critical thinking in the school library; examine the strategies used by school libraries to promote inclusion and accessibility. The theoretical framework deals with: reflection on the school library; the social function of the librarian; the training of readers and childrens and youth literature; inclusion and accessibility. This is applied and exploratory research, using case studies to deepen understanding of the context. The information unit selected is the Gilberto Amado School Library, part of the Federal Institute of Sergipe (IFS) – Polo Estância. The research results reinforce the importance of the presence of professional librarians in the management of the school library. In this way, strategies for reader training will be included in the skills and competencies of this professional, which occur in the service of the school library, in its cultural action and animation and in reading mediation. As a result of the research, it is highlighted that the presence of the professional librarian is relevant to the activities and the very existence of the school library.
                                            [1] => O presente artigo tematiza a biblioteca escolar como unidade de informação importante na formação de cidadãos, durante os processos de educação formal, nos estabelecimentos escolares. O objetivo geral da pesquisa desenvolvida é o de investigar o papel da biblioteca escolar e do bibliotecário na formação de cidadãos críticos e informados. Os objetivos específicos são:  analisar como a mediação do bibliotecário escolar promove a leitura crítica entre os alunos e o impacto da presença deste profissional; identificar práticas que incentivem o debate e o pensamento crítico na biblioteca escolar; examinar as estratégias utilizadas pelas bibliotecas escolares para promover a inclusão e a acessibilidade. O referencial teórico trata: a reflexão acerca da biblioteca escolar; a função social da pessoa bibliotecária; a formação de leitores e a literatura infantil e juvenil; inclusão e acessibilidade. Trata-se de pesquisa aplicada e exploratória, utilizando o estudo de caso para aprofundar a compreensão do contexto. A unidade de informação selecionada é a Biblioteca Escolar Gilberto Amado, integrante do Instituto Federal de Sergipe (IFS) – Polo Estância. Os resultados da pesquisa reforçam a importância da presença do profissional bibliotecário, para a gestão da biblioteca escolar. Desse modo, as estratégias para a formação do leitor serão incluídas nas habilidades e competências deste profissional, que ocorrem no atendimento da biblioteca escolar, na sua ação e animação cultural e na mediação de leitura. Como resultado da pesquisa, fica destacado que a presença do profissional bibliotecário é relevante às atividades e à própria existência da biblioteca escolar.
