The main objective of the research was to analyze how libraries have contributed to the dissemination of knowledge, the preservation of written culture, and the construction of Japanese identity. To achieve this objective, a qualitative bibliographical research approach was adopted as the methodological procedure, which made it possible to observe, in the main results, the continued relevance of libraries in Japan, not only as places for storing information but also as centers of cultural and intellectual dissemination throughout Japan's historical development. The study highlights the contemporary transformations faced by Japanese libraries as they adapt to the demands of the digital age while seeking to preserve the country’s rich bibliographic heritage.
                                            [1] => Introdução: O estudo examina a evolução das bibliotecas no Japão, desde a sua origem até os dias atuais, traçando um panorama abrangente desse dispositivo educacional e cultural ao longo da história japonesa. O objetivo principal da pesquisa foi analisar como as bibliotecas contribuíram para a disseminação do conhecimento, a preservação da cultura e a construção da identidade japonesa. Para alcançar esse objetivo, adotou-se como procedimento metodológico a pesquisa bibliográfica com abordagem qualitativa, que possibilitou observar nos principais resultados, a relevância contínua das bibliotecas no Japão, não apenas como locais de armazenamento de informações, mas também como centros de difusão cultural e intelectual, no percurso histórico do Japão. Destaca as transformações contemporâneas enfrentadas pelas bibliotecas japonesas, à medida que se adaptam às demandas da era digital e buscam preservar o rico patrimônio bibliográfico do país.
