                                            [0] => The formulation of hypotheses and research questions as fundamental guides in both the development of qualitative and quantitative research is a common practice in communication studies. However, on many occasions, there is some confusion about under what conditions it is appropriate to formulate hypotheses or research questions based on the qualitative or quantitative nature of observations. In this brief essay, the objectives and differences of quantitative versus qualitative research are examined, and different reasons are given about when the formulation of hypotheses or research questions is more appropriate.

Sin embargo, en muchas ocasiones, existe cierta confusión acerca de bajo qué condiciones es conveniente el planteamiento de hipótesis o preguntas de investigación en función de la naturaleza cualitativa o cuantitativa de los datos del estudio. En este breve ensayo se examinan los objetivos y diferencias de la investigación cuantitativa frente a la cualitativa y se razona sobre cuándo es más apropiado y recomendable el planteamiento de hipótesis o preguntas de investigación.
