                                            [0] => This study examines the perspectives of literacy in Maranhão in its historicity and its impact on the state, exploring the teaching practices recorded and discussed in the legal provisions of the First Republic. The theoretical-methodological assumptions of cultural history are used, helping us with the historical method, bibliographical and documentary research: he first, to understand how the concepts of literacy, teaching practices, teaching reading and writing, as well as reading practices and teaching practice evolved according to different productions (Silva, 1991; Ferreiro, 2003; Morais, Albuquerque, Leal, 2007; Fiorentini, 2008; Soares, 2016; Araújo, 2019); the second, which helps in crossing data from the 1st Interstate Conference of 1921, held in Rio de Janeiro, which aimed to discuss current conceptions about the literacy process and respect for the teaching of reading and writing in primary school as an instrument to eradicate the illiteracy during the period; and the Pedagogical Congress of 1920, held in São Luís/MA, where the essentiality of teaching reading and writing was discussed as a mandatory process to form children readers capable of not only decoding texts, but of understanding what was read. It helps to understand perspectives and challenges in the field of literacy, taking into account literacy practice and its evolution based on different ideas, approaches and practices since the 1920s; a time marked by movements to fight against illiteracy understood as a lasting national problem, revealing how the concepts in question were interpreted and which directions were debated to promote more inclusive and accessible literacy.
                                            [1] => Neste estudo examinam-se as perspectivas de alfabetização no Maranhão na sua historicidade e sua repercussão no estado, explorando-se as práticas de ensino registradas e discutidas nos dispositivos legais na Primeira República. Utilizam-se os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da história cultural auxiliando-nos do método histórico, da pesquisa bibliográfica e da documental: a primeira, para compreender-se como os conceitos de alfabetização, práticas de ensino, ensino de leitura e escrita, assim como práticas leitoras e prática docente evoluíram segundo diversas produções (Ferreiro, 2003; Kleiman, 2005; Morais, Albuquerque, Leal, 2007; Fiorentini, 2008; Soares, 2016; Araújo, 2019); a segunda, que auxilia no cruzamento de dados oriundos da 1ª Conferência Interestadual de 1921, realizada no Rio de Janeiro, que objetivara discutir concepções em voga sobre o processo alfabetizador e ao respeito do ensino da leitura e escrita na escola primária como instrumento para erradicar o analfabetismo no período; e do Congresso Pedagógico de 1920, realizado em São Luís/MA, onde se discute a essencialidade do ensino de leitura e escrita como processo obrigatório para formar crianças leitoras capazes não apenas de decodificar textos, mas de compreender o que foi lido. Colabora-se para a compreensão de perspectivas e desafios no campo da alfabetização, tendo em conta a prática alfabetizadora e sua evolução em função de diversas ideias, abordagens e práticas desde os anos 1920; época marcada por movimentos de luta contra o analfabetismo compreendido como problema nacional que perdura, revelando como os conceitos em pauta foram interpretados e quais direções se debateram para promover uma alfabetização mais inclusiva e acessível.
