The article seeks to highlight the implications arising from the endorsement of the Declaration of Public and Social Interest, including the commitments established by the institutions responsible for such collections, in addition to critically analyzing the process as a whole, discussing possible improvements to the device. Based on the analysis of the Circo Voador Collection, declared as being of public and social interest in January 2018, we examine how the instrument contributes to the development of practices that improve the processes of preservation and dissemination of private collections. Among the results achieved, it can be seen that, in general terms, the Declaration of Public and Social Interest is essential for safeguarding many Brazilian private collections that contain unique and relevant documents for history, culture and art.
                                            [1] => Apresenta a Declaração de Interesse Público e Social, prevista pela Lei n.º 8.159/1991 e regulamentada pelo Decreto n.º 4.073/2002, enquanto instrumento de patrimonialização de acervos privados e os desdobramentos deste reconhecimento para as instituições que preservam tais conjuntos documentais. O artigo busca evidenciar as implicações decorrentes da chancela da Declaração de Interesse Público e Social, incluindo os compromissos estabelecidos pelas instituições responsáveis por tais acervos, além de analisar criticamente o processo como um todo, discutindo possíveis aprimoramentos do dispositivo. A partir da análise do Acervo Circo Voador, declarado como de interesse público e social em janeiro de 2018, examina-se como o instrumento contribui para a elaboração de práticas que aperfeiçoam os processos de preservação e difusão de acervos privados. Dentre os resultados alcançados, observa-se que, em linhas gerais, a Declaração de Interesse Púbico e Social é essencial para a salvaguarda de muitos acervos privados brasileiros que contemplam registros únicos e relevantes para a história, a cultura e a arte.
