                                            [0] => This article is a shortened version of a master's dissertation for the Liverpool University Centre for Archive Studies (CARVALHO 2000). It deals with issues of appraisal. Such issues involve fundamental concepts on what records are, why are they kept, and their life cycle. The answers to these questions were sought and found in the history of archives, and in the specialist literature. The theory and the methodology adopted were then applied to a case study of a recently established organisation in Lisbon, which has, at the core of its business, information on electronic media.
                                            [1] => Este artigo baseia-se numa dissertação de mestrado apresentada ao Liverpool University Centre for Archive Studies (Centro de Estudos Arquivísticos da Universidade de Liverpool) e trata do tema da avaliação em arquivística (CARVALHO 2000). Este tema envolve, necessariamente, conceitos fundamentais tais como o que são documentos arquivísticos, o motivo por que se guardam e o seu ciclo de vida. A resposta a estas questões foi procurada e encontrada na História da Arquivística e na bibliografia da especialidade. A teoria e a metodologia adoptadas foram aplicadas a um estudo de caso realizado numa empresa privada em Lisboa, que trabalha numa área de informação em suporte electrónico.
