                    [0] => This research complemented a previous study conducted by the same authors who confirmed the feasibility of establishing a Knowledge Management (KM) academic program in order to position this new professional and academic field in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean region. The study was conducted in the context of the curriculum review process of the Graduate School of Information Sciences and Technologies (GSIST) to open up a pathway or track on KM within the Master’s Program in Information Science. The main objective of this study was to learn about the evolution of KM education in higher education institutions, and its relationship with Library and Information Science (LIS) programs and other faculties. The study was exploratory and used a qualitative methodology. It was based on a wide literature review and a comparative analysis of selected academic programs and specializations in KM. The programs that were examined support previous observations that a KM academic program responds in nature and content to the type of department or school that offers it. Universities interested in developing a KM program would need to assess their major competencies and determine which aspects of KM they would like to explore.@en

de establecer una oferta académica en gestión del conocimiento a fin de potenciar esta disciplina
y campo profesional en Puerto Rico y la región del Caribe. La investigación se dio en el contexto del
proceso de actualización curricular de la Escuela Graduada de Ciencias y Tecnologías de la Información
(EGCTI) en la Universidad de Puerto Rico para abrir un nuevo carril de estudios en este
campo multidisciplinario, como parte de su programa de maestría en Ciencias de la Información. El
objetivo general de la investigación fue conocer cómo ha evolucionado la educación universitaria en
gestión del conocimiento (GC) y su relación con programas de postgrado en Bibliotecología y
Ciencias de la Información (BCI), y de otras facultades. La investigación fue exploratoria y se usó
una metodología cualitativa. El estudio se fundamentó en una amplia revisión de literatura y en un
análisis comparativo de programas académicos seleccionados en GC. Los programas examinados
apoyan observaciones previas de que la oferta académica en GC responde en naturaleza y contenido
al tipo de departamento o escuela que lo ofrece. Las universidades interesadas en desarrollar
programas en GC tendrán que pasar juicio de sus competencias medulares y determinar cuál
dimensión de la GC desean explorar.@es
