                    [0] => This article presents the results of a research study on the incorporation and use of TIC (Information and Communication Technology) in technical operations in public libraries in the cities of Medellín, Colombia, and Colima, Mexico (although this article concentrates solely on the case of Medellín). It begins with a reflection on the necessity and advisability of analyzing the role of TIC in this information agency. To meet this objective, the study assumed a quantitative focus with qualitative elements, based upon a theoretical framework developed by means of previously established variables and the use of a survey as a primary technique for the generation of information. Nevertheless, the quantitative data

were complemented by qualitative data which were obtained by means of a workshop with a focal group which made it possible to corroborate and broaden the diagnosis. This article begins with a theoretical and conceptual explanation of the TIC and its applications in technical operations, continues with the methodology utilized in the research process, and then presents some of the findings obtained as a product of the analysis and interpretation of the datarelating to the variables, processes, resources, and infrastructure of the public libraries in the city of Medellín.@en
                    [1] => Se presentan los avances de la investigación sobre la incorporación y uso de las TIC en las funciones técnicas de las bibliotecas públicas de la ciudad de Medellín, Colombia y de Colima, México (este
artículo estudia sólo el caso de Medellín), a partir de la cual se invita a la reflexión en torno a la necesidad y conveniencia de analizar el papel de las TIC en esta unidad de información. Para alcanzar este objetivo se asumió el enfoque cuantitativo con matices cualitativos, pues se partió de un marco teórico construido por medio de variables establecidas previamente y con el uso de la encuesta como la principal técnica de generación de información. No obstante, los datos cuantitativos se complementaron con datos cualitativos, obtenidos con la realización de un taller con grupo focal, datos que permitieron corroborar y ampliar el diagnóstico. El artículo presenta en primer lugar, la exposición teórico conceptual de las TIC y su aplicación en las funciones técnicas, para continuar con la propuesta metodológica utilizada en la investigación y luego presentar algunos hallazgos obtenidos como producto del análisis e interpretación de los datos correspondientes a las variables: procesos, recursos e infraestructura de las bibliotecas públicas de la ciudad de Medellín.@es
