                                            [0] => The article is based on the theoretical dissertation in 2004, ECI/UFMG, entitled "The Literary Society of Belo Horizonte: a cultural legacy of the Municipal Library in the city." It presents a brief study on the public library, on a purely contextual, which deals with the functions of that institution, related to the aspects that make up a society - culture, memory, identity and ideology. Thus, we expose how the trajectory of the library can be determined by a dominant political order. Furthermore, we show how it can influence the trajectory of the community where it operates, through the activities of reading and writing that are provided by the institution. This work was performed under an interdisciplinary perspective, with contributions from historians, scholars of the sociology of knowledge and librarians.
                                            [1] => O artigo é baseado no referencial teórico da dissertação defendida em 2004, na ECI/UFMG, cujo título é “A Sociedade Literária de Belo Horizonte: um legado cultural da Biblioteca Municipal para a cidade”. Apresenta um breve estudo sobre a biblioteca pública, sob um prisma contextual, onde são abordadas as funções de tal instituição, relacionadas aos aspectos constitutivos de uma sociedade – cultura, memória, identidade e ideologia. Assim, mostramos também como a trajetória da biblioteca pode ser determinada por uma ordem política dominante. Por outro lado, expomos como ela pode influenciar a trajetória da comunidade onde atua, através das atividades de leitura e escrita que são proporcionadas pela instituição. Este trabalho foi realizado sob uma ótica interdisciplinar, com a contribuição de historiadores, estudiosos da sociologia do conhecimento e bibliotecários.
