                                            [0] => This article addresses the access to information from a point of view that relates the evolution of technology to the methods of treating information and to the desire for
knowledge. The first part introduces some important events in ancient times, the end of the middle ages/beginning of the modern age and the XIX century. Then, it presents an overview of the current situation of traditional libraries and compares some characteristics with the corresponding ones for digital libraries. It ends by mentioning the international efforts towards open archives and open access to information; it shows examples of positive results.
                                            [1] => Este artigo aborda o acesso à informação de um ponto de vista que relaciona a evolução da tecnologia aos procedimentos de tratamento da informação e à vontade de obter conhecimento. Inicia com alguns eventos na Antigüidade, no final da Idade Média/início da Idade Moderna e no século XIX. A seguir apresenta um panorama das bibliotecas tradicionais nos dias atuais e faz um contraponto com as bibliotecas digitais. Encerra com uma menção ao movimento internacional para os arquivos abertos e o acesso aberto à informação, trazendo alguns exemplos de benefícios.
