                                            [0] => The comics have been considered as a visual communication media. It shows itself through the narration of words and sequences of images. Due to a great diffusion and access at a low cost, they were universally known as mass media communication. This investigation has as main objective to investigate the cartoons reading habit by children, traveling to 4th series of the elementary school, in two schools of the municipal district of João Pessoa. It rescues the historical antecedents and approaches the thematic comics reading and reading habit. For the field research, it was applied a questionnaire as an instrument of data collection to 40 students, from public and private schools. The results
suggest that the comics occupies a prominence role in the life of the subjects, because they motivate and stimulate the reading habit; they act as a leisure activity, sharpen the
creativity and improves the spelling.
                                            [1] => As histórias em quadrinhos (HQ) são, primordialmente, consideradas um meio de comunicação visual. Manifestam-se através da narração de palavras e seqüências de imagens. Devido sua grande difusão e acesso a baixo custo, ficaram conhecidas universalmente como meio de comunicação de massa (MCM). Esta investigação tem como objetivo principal investigar o hábito de leitura de histórias em quadrinhos por
crianças cursando a 4º série do ensino fundamental em duas escolas do município de João Pessoa. Resgata os antecedentes históricos das HQ, apresenta um panorama em
nível mundial incluindo os seus precursores, particularizando a produção nacional, as crises, as controvérsias existentes. Aborda as temáticas leitura, leitura de quadrinhos, hábito de leitura e bibliotecas. Para a pesquisa de campo, foi utilizado como instrumento de coleta de dados um questionário aplicado a 40 alunos, estudantes das escolas pública e particular. Os resultados sugerem que as HQ ocupam um papel de destaque na vida dos sujeitos, pois incentivam e estimulam o hábito de leitura; atuam como uma atividade de lazer, aguçando a criatividade e melhorando a ortografia.
