                                            [0] => In this work, which is part of broader research into the formation and trajectory of the paleoinvertebrates collection of the National Museum, we present the different approaches of paleontology and Museology in the study of that collection. The methodology employed was direct observation of the collection and of the day-to-day activities going on in the space around it. In parallel, a bibliographical study was made, which allowed us to place the collection in the framework of Documentation in Museology and its underlying concepts. It is, therefore, mainly qualitative and exploratory research, relying both on primary and secondary sources. In all, the daily visits to the collection’s storage premises, the direct contact with paleontological practice in the context of the Museu Nacional and the in-depth study of theoretical questions related to musealized paleontological collections, allowed us to analyze the collection’s documentation and compare it with the approach from Museology. This analysis reinforces the need to produce multidisciplinary information systems which will strengthen the use of similar collections. Moreover, it is a further step in the study of paleontological museum collections, establishing dialogues and connections between Museology and neighboring research areas.
                                            [1] => Inserido numa pesquisa mais ampla que visa estudar o processo de formação e a trajetória da coleção de paleoinvertebrados do Museu Nacional, este trabalho procura apresentar as diferentes abordagens da Paleontologia e da Museologia no tratamento desta coleção. A metodologia seguida foi a observação direta da coleção e das atividades cotidianas que decorrem no espaço que a envolve. Em paralelo, foi feito um levantamento bibliográfico que permitiu enquadrar a coleção no âmbito da Documentação em Museologia e dos conceitos que lhe são inerentes. Trata-se, portanto, de uma pesquisa essencialmente qualitativa e exploratória, com recurso a fontes tanto primárias quanto secundárias. Em conjunto, as visitas diárias ao espaço onde a coleção está armazenada, o contato direto com o “fazer” paleontológico dentro do contexto do Museu Nacional e o aprofundamento das questões teóricas associadas às coleções de paleontologia musealizadas permitiram analisar a documentação da coleção e compará-la com a abordagem da Museologia. Esta análise reforça a necessidade de elaborar sistemas de informação multidisciplinares que potencializem o uso das coleções desta natureza. Além disso, representa um subsídio para o conhecimento das coleções de Paleontologia em museus, estabelecendo diálogos e articulações entre a Museologia e as áreas de pesquisa a que estão ligadas.
