                                            [0] => To institutionalise is not merely to institutionalise. Taking the origins, causes and consequences of the process of institutionalisation of the Library Sciences as the starting point, we seek to provide an explanation for a process which acts in a manner contrary to the traditional management of information. The process is based on and takes strenght from the liberatory praxis of non-governmental organisation (NGOs). However, even before its emergence in this context, it appears that it naturally permeated the practices and struggles of the popular classes, particularly in developing countries like Brazil.

Partindo das (prováveis) origens, causas e conseqüências da institucionalização na Biblioteconomia, procura-se dar explicação a um processo que atua na perspectiva oposta à gestão tradicional da informação. Aliás, um movimento que vai buscar suporte e se desenvolver, especialmente, através da práxis "libertadora" de entidades não governamentais. Porém que, antes mesmo, parece já se encontrar naturalmente impregnado às próprias práticas e lutas das classes populares, sobretudo nos países subdesenvolvidos, a exemplo do Brasil.
