                                    [description] => As atividades cotidianas, como assistir televisão, utilizar os caixas eletrônicos e, através da Internet, comprar, vender e trocar uma infinidade de produtos, entre outros exemplos, vem exigindo uma crescente inserção em uma sociedade denominada por muitos a sociedade da informação, a qual vem assumindo valores sociais e econômicos fundamentais. Nesse novo cenário, somos forçados a nos adaptar, sem muitos questionamentos, para viver na nova sociedade, mas é necessário entender como tal revolução vem acontecendo e quais consequências têm trazido para as pessoas. O objetivo deste artigo é estudar o impacto que as novas tecnologias estão tendo em uma sociedade desigual como a brasileira. A discussão permeia as principais iniciativas governamentais para inclusão digital e suas dificuldades mais patentes. Um questionamento é levantado sobre os critérios utilizados para aferição do grau de infra-estrutura tecnológica instalada no país, fazendo um contraponto com os principais indicadores do desenvolvimento humano, relativos à população brasileira e suas regiões.Palavras-chaveInclusão digital. Políticas públicas.Digital inclusion: a challenge to societyAbstractDaily activities, such as watching TV, using ATMs and, through the Internet, buying, selling and trading an innumerable amount of products, among other examples, have been requiring an increasing insertion in a society called by many as Information Society, which has been assuming fundamental social and economical values. In this new scenario, one is forced to adapt himself, without much questioning, in order to live in this society, but it is necessary to understand how this revolution is happening and what consequences it is bringing to the individuals. This paper aims to study the impact of the new  technologies on an unequal society such as the Brazilian. The discussion permeates the main governmental initiatives of digital inclusion and their most blatant difficulties. A question is raised about the criteria utilized in gauging the technological infrastructure in the country, while making a counterpoint with the main indicators of human development, relative to Brazilian population and its different regions.KeywordsDigital inclusion.
