The analysis of these discourses, with the help of the political philosophy, reveals that a certain amount of consensus has been built along time on what that society may be. Information and knowledge, which at first sight seemed to be the focal point or the essence of that society, appear transfigured under the appearance of information technologies’ use. Information and knowledge are drawn off their human content, reduced to utilitarian and operational aspects.                     [1] => Através de uma perspectiva histórica recuperam-se os discursos mais marcantes desde o inicio do debate sobre a sociedade da informação. A análise desses discursos à luz da filosofia política revela que, ao longo do tempo, vai-se construindo certo consenso sobre o que constitui essa sociedade. A informação e o conhecimento, que à primeira vista pareciam ser o foco ou a essência dessa sociedade, aparecem transfigurados em efeitos do uso das tecnologias da informação. Informação e conhecimento são esvaziados do conteúdo humanista, reduzidos a aspectos utilitarista e operacional. Interessa assim, à dita sociedade, o conhecimento ou a informação que possa ser digitalizada, incorporada ao processo produtivo ou à mercadoria.
