                                            [0] => Urban and Periurban Agriculture (UPA) is embodied by cooperation and consequently by manifestations of cooperativism. The reality of UPA in Brazilian cities is marked by limitations; however, cooperativism is a potential alternative to mitigate these obstacles, as well as to advance in better perspectives. The objective of this research was to demonstrate how cooperativism can help to face the problems that hinder the strengthening and recognition of farmers of this agricultural typology. We used intentional samples of published works on the themes that were articulated for the contextualization. As results, we observed that the absence of public policies and credit availability are limiting factors for UPA. The increase, as well as the outflow of the production are also difficulties faced by these farmers. These difficulties can be solved through cooperation, where members seek to make the activity viable, aiming at the autonomy of members, sustainability, food security, and local development. Therefore, the cooperativism as an element to face the problems and the strengthening based on the cooperative principles and values becomes a socioeconomically viable alternative for the UPA.
                                            [1] => Agricultura Urbana e Periurbana (AUP) consubstanciam-se pela cooperação e por consequência em manifestações de cooperativismo. A realidade da AUP nas cidades brasileiras é marcada por limitações, entretanto, tem no cooperativismo uma potencial alternativa para atenuar estes entraves, bem como avançar em melhores perspectivas. Objetivou-se nesta pesquisa demonstrar como o cooperativismo pode auxiliar no enfrentamento de problemas que dificultam o fortalecimento e reconhecimento dos agricultores desta tipologia agrícola. Foram utilizadas amostras intencionais de trabalhos publicados sobre os temas que se articularam para a contextualização. Como resultados, observamos que a ausência de políticas públicas e disponibilidade de crédito são fatores limitantes para a AUP. O aumento, bem como o escoamento da produção também são dificuldades enfrentadas por estes agricultores. Estas dificuldades podem ser solucionadas a partir da cooperação, onde os membros buscam viabilizar a atividade agrícola, visando a autonomia dos associados, a sustentabilidade, a segurança alimentar e o desenvolvimento local. Portanto, o cooperativismo como elemento para o enfrentamento dos problemas e o fortalecimento da AUP, a partir dos princípios e valores cooperativistas torna-se uma alternativa socioeconomicamente viável.
