The issue of rare books is discussed within different contexts, especially in the context of libraries. Authors such as Moraes, Hallewell and Pinheiro, provide the theoretical framework for this research paper. Although focused on precision, criteria employed in defining what a rare document is do admit a certain degree of flexibility. Rare collections located in the Pedro Aleixo Library of the Chamber of Deputies, in the Luis Viana Filho Library of the Federal Senate and in the Central Library of the University of Brasília are described.
                                            [1] => Discute-se a questão da obra rara em diferentes contextos, com destaque para a biblioteca, enquanto instituição curadora. Autores como Moraes, Hallewell e Pinheiro, entre outros, compõem o referencial teórico utilizado na pesquisa. Embora buscando precisão, os critérios empregados na definição do documento raro admitem certa flexibilidade. São explorados os acervos raros existentes na Biblioteca Pedro Aleixo da Câmara dos Deputados, na Biblioteca Luis Viana Filho, do Senado Federal, e na Biblioteca Central, da Universidade de Brasília
