Astronomia chilena: efeito da concentração da produção científica sobre os indicadores de um país

Astronomy in Chile: effect of the concentration of the scientific output on the indicators of a country

In the present work we analyze the scientific output indicators, number of articles and citations, for different knowledge fields, in particular for Astronomy and Astrophysics, for authors addressed to Chilean research institutions. The initial motivation for the present analysis was the disclosure of a ranking based on incomplete information, but with a great repercussion among communities interested in bibliometric indicators. The analysis at the level of knowledge subfields shows how the concentration of scientific outputs and their citations in a single field can bias overall citations averages and ranking positions. We also verify the weight of a single institution, the European Southern Observatoty (ESO), on general indicators at the country level. A coauthorship network involving researchers addressed to ESO is buildup and and analyzed, revealing some characteristics of the collaborations in large scale research facilities focused on Astronomy.@en

Neste trabalho analisamos os indicadores de produção científica, número de artigos e citações, para diferentes áreas do conhecimento, em particular Astronomia e Astrofísica de autores lotados em instituições chilenas. A motivação para a análise foi a disseminação de um ranking baseado em informações incompletas, mas que repercutiu em comunidades interessadas em indicadores bibliométricos. A análise no nível de subáreas do conhecimento mostra como a concentração de produção e citações em apenas uma área pode influenciar médias gerais e eventuais posições em rankings. Verifica-se também o peso que uma única instituição, o European Southern Observatory (ESO), pode apresentar nos indicadores gerais de um país. Uma rede de coautoria envolvendo pesquisadores do ESO é construída e analisada, revelando algumas características das colaborações em grandes ambientes de pesquisa voltadas à Astronomia.@pt
